Basenji Companions Fall Revels 2004 - What We Did

The 10/17/04 Revels had one of the best turnouts in recent memory, with 45 attendees with 30 Basenjis taking part. Four families drove from at least one or two states away. Additionally, we had 3 photo-entries from out of state (and country), involving 5 more Basenjis. The weather was balmy, and the sun was out. The Revels are held inside, and our facility is spacious, allowing folks to spread out so that no one gets crowded. We had the usual Basenji snarks, but nothing that escalated, as all dogs are leashed and/or crated inside the hall.

Pot luck food was delicious, with Chicken legs, cold cuts, sandwiches, wild rice salad, chili and all manner of goodies and chips. Soft drinks and bottled water were supplied by Bob and Leslie Crook, and Dunkin' Donuts coffee was brought by Linda and Tom Maw. Raffle prizes were excellent, and no one went home empty handed.

Contests were judged by Amy Baldwin and called out by Laura Whitney. All winners were awarded rosettes by the club. A short, annual business meeting was held over lunch, and Betsy Polglase passed out a printed review of this year's club activities which will also be printed in the upcoming newsletter. We had experimented with cutting down to only seven of the most popular competitions, but folks nearly universally voted to go back to having more. We will add a number of them back in for the Spring REVELS.

I had a great time talking to Basenjis owners, hob-nobbing with Basenjis and watching everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. A big thank you to all of the Board, who worked hard on organizing the Revels, and to everyone who simply pitched in and helped once they got there. Great Basenji fun day!
